Description

You will form part of a core finance team responsible for the accounting and financial operations of a key brokerage division. The team is intentionally lean, providing early ownership, visibility and real responsibility rather than a siloed, purely transactional remit.

Working closely with brokers and senior stakeholders, you will gain a detailed understanding of how the division operates commercially — an invaluable foundation for long-term progression within financial services.

There is also a strong emphasis on process optimisation, systems improvement and intelligent use of data. This role will appeal to someone who enjoys not only producing accurate financial information, but improving how finance functions operate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation and reporting of monthly management accounts across business units and legal entities

  • Prepare and post month-end journals, including accruals, prepayments and intercompany recharges

  • Investigate and analyse material revenue and cost variances

  • Perform intercompany reconciliations and resolve differences

  • Support preparation of VAT returns, regulatory returns and statutory reporting requirements

  • Assist with year-end financial statements and liaise with external auditors

  • Contribute to regulatory reporting (FCA / international equivalents) where applicable

  • Monitor and enhance internal controls and financial systems

  • Provide ad hoc financial analysis to divisional and group finance teams

  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives

  • Contribute to wider finance projects and system developments

Candidate Profile

This role is well suited to a Newly Qualified or Senior Part Qualified accountant with strong core accounting fundamentals.

Experience & Technical Skills

  • Strong grounding in double-entry accounting and month-end processes

  • Experience preparing management accounts and supporting statutory reporting

  • Comfortable working within a regulated financial services environment (FCA exposure advantageous)

  • Strong Excel capability; experience with financial systems (e.g. Workday or equivalent)

  • Exposure to data tools such as SQL, Python or VBA would be advantageous

  • High degree of numerical accuracy and analytical capability

Personal Attributes

  • Commercially curious and confident engaging with non-finance stakeholders

  • Organised and capable of meeting tight reporting deadlines

  • Resilient and adaptable within a dynamic environment

  • Motivated to improve processes and drive efficiencies

  • Collaborative, low-ego and team-oriented

Why This Role Stands Out

  • Global brand backing with the feel and agility of a growing specialist division

  • Front-office exposure and meaningful stakeholder interaction

  • Genuine responsibility early in tenure

  • Strong technical and commercial development pathway

  • Clear emphasis on process improvement and automation

  • High-performing but low-ego culture

  • Hybrid working and sustainable working practices

This is an increasingly rare combination in financial services: strong technical development, commercial exposure, long-term career upside and a high-quality working environment.
